Naked triple

What it is

Three cells in a unit whose candidates together are only three digits – those digits can be removed from the rest of the unit.

How to spot it

Look for three cells in the same unit that between them use only three digits. Each cell doesn't need all three – 12, 23 and 13 is a triple.

Example

  • Basis
  • Removed / placed
r1c1 (1 2), r1c4 (2 3) and r1c7 (1 3) share the digits 1, 2 and 3. They must take all three, so 1, 2 and 3 are removed from r1c2, r1c6 and r1c8.
